Dr. Alexandra Nicholson
Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! The administrative team and I are privileged to serve the communities of Northbrook and Glenview by leading the education of the children of District 31.Throughout the year, our efforts will focus on fulfilling the District’s mission: “Preparing Today’s Students for Tomorrow’s World. We educate our children to achieve their highest potential in all growth areas – intellectual, emotional, social, and physical.” District 31 is committed to providing a high quality educational program to ALL students. We take our role in preparing your children for being successful within an ever changing world very seriously.
Each school year, key initiatives for continued improvement are identified that directly correspond to the District 31 Strategic Plan. During the 2014-2015 school year, these continue to fall within the following categories: Communication, Community, Educational Programming,Finances, Operations, and Personnel. By visiting the District web site, you can review the progress made with the Five-Year Strategic Plan the last four years as well as learn about 2014-2015 goals and objectives. During 2014-2015, I will be leading a team of District stakeholders – teachers, administrators, Board of Education members, community members, and parents – through the development of our second five-year strategic plan. This will be an extremely important task for the future of District 31, as this team will identify the goals and objectives for improvements through 2019-2020.
District 31 has embarked on several journeys that we believe will make Winkelman and Field Schools models for success. This year, the following initiatives are being implemented:
· Full-Day Kindergarten with Integrated Student Services
· Common Core Mathematics
· Updated Middle School Programming
· Next Generation Science
· K-2 ELL Sheltered Classrooms
· Blended Pre-School Program
· 3-8 One-One Student Technology
I encourage you to browse our web site to learn more about District 31. You can find out when Board of Education meetings are scheduled and review formal Board meeting minutes. You can review important information within the Student/Parent Handbook, check the District and school activity calendars, review Board policies, learn about PTC and Education Foundation activities, etc. As always, I look forward to working with the families and community members of District 31. Your input and questions are welcome. Please do not hesitate to contact any of the District 31 administrators or me at any time throughout the year.
